Message From Our President

 Welcome to the MCWA 2021/2022 New Year!

 This year promises to be a wonderful year filled with activities, luncheons, Outreach, fellowship and fun. So welcome ladies, from the bottom of my heart.

The last 18 months have been challenging and difficult times for all of us. The lives of our families, neighbors and friends have been disrupted and altered in ways we could not have imagined. Our strength as individuals and an organization enabled us to survive all these challenges. We adapted to this new normal as best we could which demonstrated our resilience. Now, as we see the light at the end of the tunnel and daily life returns to more normal activities and routines, we can pause to support each other with compassion and continue our mission of charity toward others who continue to need our support.

Sisterhood of Compassion was chosen as our theme this year to highlight the compassion and sisterhood we demonstrate toward each other, as well as others in our larger community. Strength, Resilience, Charity and Compassion are the words to describe the amazing members of our wonderful organization.  Our members bring these words to life through every interaction with others. I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve with each and every one of you and look forward to the year ahead.

MCWA October Luncheon Notice

The October Luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13th with doors opening at 11:30 AM. The theme will be “Think Pink” in honor of breast cancer awareness month. All members are encouraged to wear their favorite pink outfit! Our program will feature a fashion show produced by Jean-Pierre Klifa of Paris. It is a new dress shop on St. George Street in downtown St. Augustine. Rita Williams, MCWA President, is asking for twelve members to volunteer as models to “walk the runway.” Please contact Rita at 703-431-2111 if you are interested.

Care Committee

The Marsh Creek Care Committee will help anyone in Marsh Creek who has an illness, has had surgery or has lost a loved one. We offer cards, calls, and meals for those who request them. Anyone who needs help, please contact Barbara Mahoney or Pattie Nolton. If you know of a person who needs help or has suffered a loss, let us know. We will respond.

Social Events

Join us for our Welcome Back Cocktail Party on Tuesday, September 28th at the club and back patio from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served along with a cash bar. The Party is open to MCWA members only. This is the time to visit with friends and find out about upcoming events. Detailed information will be available with the opportunity to sign up for our social events and pay by check for those uncomfortable using our on-line payment system.

Two events are planned for October! The first event will be a docent tour of the Cummer Art Museum & Gardens with lunch on Wednesday, October 20th starting at 11 AM. Carpooling will be available, meeting at MCCC at 9:15 AM. The cost is $30.00 for the tour and lunch. Details will be forthcoming shortly!

The Woman’s Exchange is hosting a luncheon in their covered out door garden at the Pena Peck House on Thursday, October 28th. Doors open at 11:30 AM with lunch at 12 Noon. MCWA has secured 25 seats for our second October event. Local author Ann Colby, who wrote “Wicked St Augustine” will speak about life in the early days of St. Augustine. Cost is $35.00.

In November, Save-the-Date for Wednesday, November 10th! A guided tour of Downtown DeLand has been planned with award-winning guide, Gary Sass. Tour the Stetson Mansion decorated for Christmas! Note that the MCWA November Luncheon has been moved to Wednesday, November 17th.

MEMBERSHIP

All Marsh Creek Country Club Members are invited to join or renew their memberships in the Marsh Creek Women’s Association (MCWA).

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Invoices for membership dues were sent to all members via email on September 6, 2021. If you did not receive an invoice, please check your spam, trash or junk email accounts.

Membership dues are payable now, of $50 for the year, for September 2021 through August 2022. There are several options for Payment:

1. Pay by PayPal or Credit Cards by clicking the Membership Payment button below

2. Pay by mailing your check to MCWA-Treasurer, Marsh Creek Country Club, 169 Marshside Dr., St. Augustine, Florida, 32080

3. Pay by dropping your check in the MCWA Dues box or Treasurer’s folder in the Ladies Locker Room

4. Bring your check or credit card to the Welcome Back Cocktail Party.

We have an exciting year of activities and events planned. We look forward to seeing you at our Welcome Back Cocktail Party on September 28th!

Community Outreach

We are excited to begin a new year of community support for the MCWA.  If you have not signed up for our committee and would like to join us, please email Cheri at cheric.keirstead@gmail.com. We are starting out strong with many committee members taking on responsibilities within the committee. 

Continuing our tradition of helping the children at the Emergency Services Homeless Coalition get ready for school, the MCWA Board approved $1500 for the purchase of shoes and clothing.  Many thanks to Melody Ness and Jane Weizmann who shopped and made the deliveries to the excited children.

Over the summer 15 applications were sent to local nonprofits asking them to apply for funding from MCWA.  We received 11 for evaluation.   Nina Pitkin and Helen Boxer reviewed the applications and created summaries of each application. The Outreach Committee met on September 13th  via Zoom  to discuss each organization, reviewing their mission and how they wish to use our funding if granted. Our chosen charities will be announced at the October Luncheon.
