Dear MCWA Members,

I would like to introduce the program presenter for our February Luncheon, Mike Adams. Mike has lived in Saint Augustine for 42 years. He is originally from Pennsylvania. Mike is an environmentalist and an educator. He enjoys educating the public about local wildlife. Mike will tell us all about the wildlife in Marsh Creek and surrounding areas. Our luncheon menu has been announced and listed below.

Entrée: Strawberry field salad with grilled chicken: 

Fresh arugula and spring mix, fresh Strawberries and crumbled goat cheese, English cucumber shaved carrots and candied pecans with raspberry vinaigrette 

Dessert: Triple Chocolate Cheesecake Brownie

The Marsh Creek Care Committee will help anyone in Marsh Creek who has an illness, has had surgery or has lost a loved one. We offer cards, calls, and meals for those who request them. Anyone who needs help, please contact Barbara Mahoney or Pattie Nolton. If you know of a person who needs help or has suffered a loss, let us know.

Social Events

We started the new year off with a trip to the Jacksonville Symphony where we were treated to an exceptional concert!  We listened to “Classical Broadway” tunes and enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Cummer Art Museum.  

Unfortunately, the Paper Card Making event, with Judy Reyes, will be postponed until a later date this spring.  Those ladies who have already signed up will remain on the list until the new date is scheduled.  (If there is a conflict with the rescheduled date, a refund will be issued.)  We apologize for this change!  Hopefully Covid will no longer be an issue later this spring!

We have three events on the calendar for February: 

1. Our Valentines Dinner will be held on Thursday, February 10th at La Cocina Restaurant.  The cost is $53.25 per person, and there are 6 places available.  Joni Gaines and the rest of the social committee have been hard at work planning this event.  If you are interested in reserving a place, please contact Joni at jonig1@bellsouth.net.

II. Beverly Kessler has organized a trip to DeLeon Springs on February 18th.  The trip will cost $30.00 and includes a DIY pancake breakfast at The Old Spanish Sugar Mill and an Eco Boat Tour.  This will be a day long activity, so plan on leaving from Marsh Creek around 8:30 and returning around 3:30.  The last day to sign up for this adventure will be at our luncheon on February 9.th  Until then, you can sign up for this event on our website by clicking on the button below.

III. Pattie Nolton has organized a wine tasting for us at The Flagler Beachfront Winery on Wednesday, February 23rd at 1:00.  Delicious meat and cheese Tapas, and a guided tasting of several local wines will be featured. 

Looking ahead to March, Denise Hagan has organized a trip to the “Garden of Eatin” on Monday, March 7th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  This event includes a Herbalist Presentation, tastings of herbal snacks & drinks, and time to shop & consult with an Herbalist.  Signups for this event will begin at the February Luncheon.

Finally, Sue Whittle has once again planned an Eco Walking Tour at Washington Oaks Park. This tour will take place on April 5th, and include a guided tour and Honey Baked Ham Sandwich picnic.  Cost for this event will be $42.00. Sign ups will begin in March. 

We plan on adding a few more events before the end of our year…as you can see, we continue to be busy and plan many diversified activities for our members.  We hope you choose to enjoy as many as you can!

Community Outreach

Our Outreach Committee and all of you as members have been very busy behind the scenes, even though we may not have seen each other. The generosity of our community has been overwhelming!

From the Angel Tree to the Food Drive, quietly collecting fleece blankets to deliver to seniors as part of Pie in the Sky’s Holiday Bags, donating furniture to help furnish a bedroom for an elder, teaching craft classes and hosting children’s gatherings at The Homeless Coalition, and contributing funds to feed school children with Food 4 Kids, we have made an impact in this community.

The list is long. We so appreciate everything our members did to make all of this possible for so many. Our charities continue to thank all of you for your generosity and giving spirits. They send you all a virtual hug filled with gratefulness. The Outreach Committee so wishes we could be sharing this news in person and applauding each and every one of you for your help-THANK YOU!

Now what’s ahead for 2022……

Our Giving Circle continues with Pie in the Sky as our charity for February. At our Valentines Day luncheon on February 9th, we will hear about their special mission of feeding seniors in St. Johns County and learn how we can help.

In addition, Cheri Keirstead will be offering a “Playful Painting for a Cause” workshop on Tuesday, February 22nd from 3 -5pm, with all proceeds going to Pie in the Sky. This fun interactive class will be held at Ocean Breeze Interiors located at 5575 A1A South #109 in Dollar General Plaza. Our Fundraising Gala will take place on May 7th, 2022,

celebrating the Kentucky Derby’s Run for the Roses. The Gala will be an event not to be missed. Get ready to grab your hats and place your bets!

The Gala will feature a “Wine Pull” to raise money for our six charities. We are asking that members donate a bottle of wine (or more, if so inclined) with a retail value of $25 or greater for each bottle. Please bring your wine donation to February’s Luncheon. If you cannot attend

the luncheon, please call Mimi Iannuzzi 518-588-3918 or Molly Courcy 617-721-8311 and someone will pick it up.
